Ex Albergo San Marco

Hotel San Marco is located in the heart of Piacenza, at the corner of via San Marco and via Cittadella and it represents an important piece of architectural and cultural history of the city. Its current image is, in fact, the result of several construction phases that, from its first construction, then followed until the beginning of the twentieth century. The asset retains some important valuable elements. In addition to the decorative apparatuses of the two facades composed of the bugnato and the double windows of the ground floor, the intermediate and crowning frames and the edicules that frame the windows, there is the presence of some iron elements in Art Nouveau style. Among these we remember: the shelter on the entrance portal and the railings of the stairs and balconies. The building was born as a hostel owned by the Chapter of the Collegiate Church of San Gervaso; later it was bought by a private who made it the most important city hotel, which often counted among the guests Giuseppe Verdi.

Accessibility

Piacenza rises on the right bank of the Po, at the end of the ancient Via Emilia, in the most northern and western part of the region. Strategically located at the crossroads between Lombardy, Piedmont, Liguria and Emilia, it has always played an important role thanks to its geographical position, which has determined its strategic-military, highway and railway importance. It is only 67 km from Milan, with which it maintains strong relations, and is a central node of the Po Valley for road and rail transport, consolidating itself as a tertiary logistics hub of European importance. The city is crossed by key infrastructures such as the A1 motorway (north-south), the A21 (east-west), and the railway lines Milan-Bologna and Genoa-Alessandria-Turin, in addition to the high speed line Milan-Bologna, which strengthens its centrality for passengers and goods. Its history as a place of transit, from pilgrims on the Via Francigena to modern traffic, highlights its role as a crucial hub. Given the cultural and architectural importance, it is proposed to enhance the real estate through synergies that connect the services and opportunities of the capital, creating an integrated path that highlights its resources and its unique identity.
