Torrione Fodesta

The Tower was built in the Habsburg period on the pre-existing Porta Fodesta, of which today is lost the physical evidence, as a shelter of port activities and entry into the city from north/ northeast. The property is located within an area close to the railway seat, and has a double access (for motor vehicles and people), on street XXI Aprile; inside are located, in addition to the tower, some buildings in line, built on the perimeter of the lot, of poor architectural quality and without elements of historical-artistic value. In view of the redevelopment of the abandoned volumes, the Torrione Fodesta plays an important role for the north-east area, due to its location at the point of connection between the historic city and the area north of the railway station, at the centre of urban regeneration initiatives. The site could constitute an ideal "bridge" of connection between the different tissues and contexts that surround it, with the possibility of recovering to new functions of spaces of quality level of absolute importance, comparable to the other realities of the adjacent historic center.
